As a developer, you might think a high-end MacBook is not worth the investment. Contrary to that argument, look at the new MacBook Pro lineup as a future-proof device. For example, the 16-inch model with an M2 chip now includes a new media engine for advanced video editing and graphics processing.
I need a new laptop for programming but I'm unsure whether or not to invest in the new 2019 Macbook pro. I would've gotten Windows instead but MacOS is a Unix-based operating system. I currently have the 2012 retina 13-inch Macbook pro but it's gotten very slow now and I'm looking for an upgrade.

MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro are good choices for programming, and the main differences are the processing power, graphics capabilities, and overall performance.. The MacBook Air M2 has a lower-power processor than the MacBook Pro M2 and may need to be better suited for resource-intensive tasks such as compiling large programs or running multiple virtual machines.
LadyIndie. • 2 yr. ago. iOS products are necessary for making games for Apple devices, so if you intend to focus on making iPhone/iPad games, then yes - a MacBook is good. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend one for general game development. Our school is very Mac-focused, except in one department: Game Design.
